A Ferris wheel with a radius of 8.0m makes 1 revolution every 10 s. When he is at yhe top, essentially a diameter above the ground, he releases a ball. How far from the point on the ground directly under the release point does the ball land?

Horizontal speed of ball when released = 8 x (2.pi/10) m/s = 5.03 m/s
Use equation of motion: s = ut + (1/2)at^2 to the vertical motion
with u = 0 m/s, s = -2x8 m =-16 m, a =-g(=-10 m/s^2), t=?
hence, -16 = (1/2).(-10)t^2
t = 1.79 s

Therefore, horizontal distance travelled by the ball
= 5.03 x 1.79 m = 9 m
