the roles of means the functions of. this question is asking you to explain the structures of the cell membrane with relevance to their properties of transporting materials into the cell.

for example:

the cell membrane consist of the fluid mosaic model, with slight lateral movement of phospholipid bilayer with proteins interspersed among it.

the phospholipid bilayer is fat-soluble. this allows any non-polar molecules like vitamin a and small molecules like oxygen molecules to enter cell freely.
the bilayer can move laterally. this confers fluidity which allow endocytosis and exocytosis, which allows mass movement of molecules into and out of the cell.

the protein molecules can be polar. they allow polar molecules like ions to pass through, hence the movement of ions can be controlled by closing of channels and active transport.

the glycoprotein and glycolipids can act as receptors for endocytosis.

Explain the roles of the structures of the cell membrane in the transportation of substances into the cell.
1. can I have the answer please? Yes, of course. The way that the transportation of substances is mainly by means of the blood vessels through which blood flows in the body i.e. artery or vein. And the artery is carrying substances with various elements circulated through its auxiliary artery or capillaries into layers and walls of living cells and where the process of osmosis taken place. As we know that walls of living cells are semipermeable membranes and much of the activity of the cells depends upon osmosis.
2.can you explain the question-----the roles of ? what does that mean? My answer is the roles of which means the task or duty of the structures of the cell membrane. Having mentiioned in Que 1, that walls of living cells are semipermeable membranes and much of the activity of the cells depends upon osmosis.
