英文Need to be 用法

「need to + 原形動詞」 是表示「須要做某件事」，文法上稱為 need 後面加不定詞。因為是要加原形動詞，所以 be 動詞會以 be 的形式出現：

He is there.

He needs to be there.


美國英語 need 後面幾乎都用不定詞，也就是說 need to be 的 to 不可省略。

但是在英國， need 是可以當助動詞的。我們都知道助動詞可以直接加原形動詞，所以在某些情況下， 可以不用 to。 但這一般出現在否定句最多：

You needn't be here.

也可出現在 疑問句：

Need you be here?

肯定句就比較少見，除非在特殊情形，例如要求、命令、假設：

You need to be here.
這是普通情形，你得要來。

You need be here.
這是特殊情形，我要求你必須要來。

If need be, I will be here.
需要的話，我會在這裡。

這是條件假設。

所以在一般正常狀況， You need to be on time. 不要把 to 省略掉。

be 不能省略！

英語句子一定要有動詞。 can 是助動詞，be 才是動詞。can 只是幫助 be 動詞多一個「可以」的意思而已。例如：

你是學生 --> 你「可以」是學生。
You are a student. --> You can be a student.

這個 be 就是原本的 are，因為 can 而變成原形動詞 be。

同理，你在 ABC 俱樂部 --> 你「可以」在 ABC 俱樂部

You are in the ABC club.
--> You can be in the ABC club.

be 就是原來的 are。 不可省略！

need to 是讓 be 動詞多一個「必須」的意思而已，be 動詞不能省略。

你準時 --> 你「必須」準時

You are on time. --> You need to be on time.

be 是原來的 are，不能省略。

只要是 I am, You are, he is, she is, it is, we/you/they are..... 這樣的句子，都可以用 can, will, shall, should, must 這類的助動詞來幫助它形成特別的意思。例如：

will be 表示未來「將是」。
can be 表示「能夠是」
should be 表示「應該是」
must be 表示「必須是」或「可能是」。

但 be 動詞不能和 do, does, did 這個助動詞一起用!

因為 do, does, did 是幫助一般動詞形成否定句和疑問句，而 be 動詞直接可以用 am not, is not, are not 或 Am I, Are you, Is he.......來形成否定和疑問，不必要再有 do 了！

這是要特別注意的地方。

on time是形容詞片語

這裡的get是動詞

You need to be nice to your friends.
因為nice是形容詞所以要用be動詞

You need to be here at 10 o'clock.
