Most trains involve changing trains at Wolverhampton, and again at Smethwick, total journey time around 2 hours 45 minutes., There are a few trains that only involve one change at Birmingham, but the total journey time is generally a little longer.

Go to www.nationalrail.co.uk, Enter "Manchester" (all stations) and "Worcester" (all stations) as your starting and destination points, and it will show a list of trains and interchange points, timings and fare options.

You certainly will not be able to use your local bus/tram pass for the journey!

The trams in Manchester run in the local area only. Worcester is a 2 hour 30 minute train journey from Manchester Piccadilly Station including a change at Birmingham New Street and you cannot use your bus pass on the trains. The cheapest rail tickets are those booked well in advance for specifically timed trains. Booking opens 11 to 12 weeks before your journey

For the train journey, you should travel from Manchester Piccadilly to Birmingham New Street. Change trains there for a direct train for Worcester Foregate Street. This station is in the town centre. The train may go to Worcester Shrub Hill first, but this is about one mile out of the centre. Most trains go via Stourbridge Junction and take about 75 minutes. However, there are some trains which go via Bromsgrove and cut about 30 minutes off the journey. They go down the Lickey Incline, quite a feature in steam train days.

It's possible to a few short cuts like changing trains at Wolverhampton to a local service and alighting at Smethwick Galton Bridge. A lift will then take you to the line which goes above the platform you've just arrived on. The trains to Worcester (which started in Birmingham) then arrive for you. It means that you'll need to use three trains instead of two but you'll save about 15 minutes.

If you get a choice, always go for the train that goes via Bromsgrove. It's a lot quicker (by about 30 minutes) and joins the other line at Droitwich.

As for your bus pass, I'm not too sure what type it is but it probably can be used to go to Piccadilly station. If it's a senior or disabled persons bus pass, you'll be able to use it in Worcester as well. No, you can't use your bus pass on the train.

I hope that's been useful. I used to make the journey to Worcester from Preston to Worcester on a regular basis

A Manchester bus pass will only be valid on rail/tram services for the Manchester area. Similarly one for the West Midlands will be valid only in the West Midlands.

I'm surprised you can use your bus pass on the tram, but you certainly can't on the train, and there isn't a tram service which goes from Manchester to Worcester. Depends how far in advance you can book the ticket and what time of day, so more information please!

It could be cheaper & possibly quicker to see if there is a National Express Coach Service between the two cities - approx 2 1/2 hours direct
