1. The scale of a map is 1cm to 200 m ( 1: 20000 )
What is the length of a highway on the map if its actual lenth is 8 km?
1cm to 200m = 1cm to 0.2km
1cm:0.2km=length on the map:8km
1/0.2=length on the map/8
5=length on the map/8
length on the map=40cm

2. A man put $10 into a bank at the begining of 1900 at a compound interest of 8% per annum, compounded annually. How much can he get back at the end of 2003? (Correct the answer to nearest cent)
