This is because of light refraction (光折射). Due to refraction of light, the image of an object immersed in water forms an image (影像) nearer to the water surface. Hence, the image is closer to the eye of the observor than the object does. The image thus appears larger.

即係話呢, 個物件放入水, 你睇到個物件影像的距離會比真實距離縮短, 因為光經過水會產生折射, 舉例, 你平時行過泳池, 水深2米, 但係你喺池邊望落去好似冇2米深, 因為光線經過水會有折射, 令你產生距離上既錯覺, 咁你知放得近件野會愈大, 放得遠會睇落細d, 咁依家距離好似近左, 所以就睇落似大左.

因為水的密度比空氣大,當光線在水裹進入空氣時,光線會偏離法線,所以不論是什麼的物體浸在水裏看會大些。其實你在游泳池裹,在水面上看下去,泳池底部還要高,不論是物體或泳池底都會高或大些,這些叫做光的折射。
