1. What is the percentage of 1 1/2 (一又二分之一) in 8 ?
Required %=(1 1/2)/8x100%=18.75%
2. Alan and Scott own own a sum of money. Alan owns 90%. If he gives $16 to
Scott, he will own 85% of the money. How much money do they own? (方程)
Let $x be be money they own.
90%x-16=85%x
0.05x=16
x=320
∴They own $320.
3. Distance between Town A and B is 5 400km. A flight starts traveling from
Town A at 7:00 am, at a speed of 1 500km/hr. what time will it arrive at
Town B?
Time required to travel=5400/1500=3.6 hrs=3hrs 36 mins
∴It will arrive at Town B at 7:00a.m.+3:36=10:36a.m.
4. Town A and Town B are 180 km apart. Uncle Ben left Town A at 8:00 am and
drove at a speed of 65 km/hr. His engine broke down at 10:00 am and he
stopped to wait for the repair service. How far was he from Town B at that
time?
Distance he traveled=2x65=130km
∴He was 180-130=50km far from Town B at that time.
