You don't have to decide to leave, but why don't you start planning to leave? Think about how where you could go, who you can count on, how you would leave. Start calling local churches and nonprofit agencies and ask where you can get help. Call the social worker at the hospital where you had the baby and ask what kind of help is available. Start looking at government programs for food stamps and family assistance.

I think once you start looking, and you figure out how to live, then you will be able to talk to him about what you need from him and how he can help. After that, if he is still lazy, then you know what you can do to get out and live on your own.

Talk to him. If he cares about you & your child, he'll straighten up, get a job, and act right. If he doesn't, then you need to leave, no matter how stressful or scary life can get. You do have a child though, so try to work things through before leaving him.
