1. P(a,3) and Q(-5,b) are on the same vertical line, they have the same x-coordinates.∴a=-5.2. P(a,3) and Q(-5,b) are on the same vertical line,
distance between P and Q=difference between x-coordinates of P and Q
.∴a-(-5)=5 or (-5)-a=5

so a =-5.
2. Since P(a,3) and Q(-5,b) are on the same vertical line, so the distance between P and Q is just the difference between their y-coordinates.
So b=3+5=8, or b= 3-5= -2.
so a =-5.
