Where is the safest place in California to live?

Hello. I am considering moving to California in the next 14 months with my wife and 6 year old. Does anyone have suggestions? And why? Any help would be appreciated.

Mission Viejo
Thousand Oaks
Sunnyvale
Simi Valley
San Luis Obispo
Walnut
Sherman Oaks
San Jose
San Diego
Sonoma
Santa Rosa
Santa Clarita
San Mateo
* Rather than Santa Ana or Anaheim, I would recommend Orange or Lake Forest (just my opinion.)

According to Forbes magazine, out of the 10 safest cities in America it consider the safest, 4 where in California.
Rank #9 was San Diego
Rank# 8 was Anaheim
Rank # 7 was Santa Ana
Rank# 4 was San Jose

Forbes Magazine doesnt know what the hell they are talking about. San Jose has crime and so does San Diego and Santa Ana is not good any more.
Only Californians are entitled to answer this question. I am in the Bay Area and cannot even speak about Southern California. My answer would be Marin county.
California is too large and has hundreds of smaller towns that are not too bad. If you choose the wealthiest communities you are always safer than the poorer ones.

The most recent Forbes list of the safest US cities lists these California cities in the top 10:
#4 Santa Ana - car fatality rank: 4 Violent crime rank: 11
#6 San Jose - car fatality rank: 12 Violent crime rank: 6
Anaheim and San Diego got knocked out of the top 10 by two Colorado cities. But I'd go for Anaheim or Santa Ana just because they seem to be better protected.
In case you were wondering about the top 3:
Plano, Texas just outside Dallas, boasts the lowest violent crime rate of the American cities Forbes looked at and the sixth-lowest traffic fatality rate, topping their our list for the second year in a row. The Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, Nev., and Honolulu come in second and third, respectively.
