Does amazon apply tax to products sold to CA residents?

Effective Sept 1, 2012 Amazon and other online retailers with over $500,000 in sales in California will begin charging sales tax.

Amazon is also building a distribution center in San Bernandino so we would have had sales tax in CA anyway because of the "nexus".
- this distribution center was started as part of the agreement between the state and Amazon over the sales tax issue.

As of today, if the product ships from CA, you already owe a sales tax.
