Wireless/Wired Router Question!?

2012-06-22 6:07 pm
I just got road runner internet.

Apparently the modem is not wireless so only the computer it's hooked up to can access the internet. (unlike at&t modem which could be used with any computer in the house)

What kind of router should I get for my other two laptops around the house?

Wireless or Wired? What's the difference....

thanks!

these are things you should have brought up during the order process. You cannot just use anny router as the primary on cable. If you want wireless you must purchase a DOC SIS 3,0 compliant GATEWAY it has cable input, wireless, and 4 lan-ports. I personally recommend the MOTOROLA SBG6580. By doing this you don't have to pay for equipment rental or wifi charges by using your own equipment,

Chances are that if you have a laptop then you would like to take advantage of Wi-Fi, so wireless is probably a good choice.

i have a Netgear wireless router and it is pretty fast and the range is long too so i would recommend a Netgear wireless router but it depends on your home if it is small then i wouldn't recommend a router with a big range but if u have a big house then get a router with long range

You'll want a wireless router, supporting 802.11n (the "N" is the important part).

You'll connect the router to the modem with an Ethernet cable. You will also connect the current computer to the router with another Ethernet cable (usually included with the router).

"Wireless" means that your other two laptops will connect to the router via Wi-Fi, and won't need cables.
