Consider the simultaneous equations
x-y=3 ---(1)
{ z-y=5 ---(2)
x+z=6 ---(3)

1. Rewrite the simultaneous equation by expressing y in terms of x and z.
2. Try to solve the simultaneous equations. Can you find the exact values of the unknowns? Briefly explain your idea.

Q1.
from (1), y=x-3 - (4)
from (2), y=z-5 - (5)

Q2.
(4)+(5)
2y = (x-3) + (z-5)
2y = (x+z) -8
2y = 6 - 8
2y = -2
y = -1
by putting y=-1 into (4) and (5),
the exact values of the unknowns can be found then.

1.) x-y=3
-y=3-x
y=-3+x .....(1)

z-y=5
y= -5+z..........(2)

2.) x=3+y .......(1)
z=5+y........(2)
sub (1) (2) into (x+z=6)

(3+y)+(5+y)=6
8+2y =6
y = -1

Hope can help you
