1. He smiled a foolish smile.
2. He smiled foolishly.

雖然以上句子意思一樣,但我想知第一句通常用於甚麼語境?第二句又通常用於甚麼語境?

To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To smile the foolish smile
To eat the inedible food
To believe in unbelievable pretence
To hide behind bushes at which hunters shoot

"he smiled a foolish smile"; don't you think it is full of poetic taste???

The first sentence is much more poetic than the second one. Also, it does not really matter that you use either one of them.

In the English world, you can treat such a thing as a word game.
