The marked price of a toy car is $29. It is sold at a discount of 20%. If the cost of the toy car is $18, find the percentage profit.

Answer: 28.9%

Solution:

cost = $18
marked price = $29
selling price = $29 x (1 - 20%) = $23.2

the percentage profit
= [(selling price - cost) / cost] x 100%
= [(23.2 - 18) / 18] x 100%
= (5.2 / 18) x 100%
= 28.9%

= [29x(100%-20%)-18 / 18] x 100%
=[23.2-18 /18] x 100%
=[5.2/18] x 100%
=28 8/9%
