Should I take a car to college?

I'm going to college in a big, out of state city this fall and am debating whether or not I should take a car with me. I've had a car since I was 16 and it's always been so convenient to have one, but I live in a very small town, so that may be why. My parents insist that I won't need one with the availability of public transportation within the college campus and around the city, and with the cost of parking and insurance being so high, but I feel like I'll be stuck with out one, especially when it comes to seeing the rest of the city and coming home when I want. Also I'm concerned about how I will get to my job if I get one that's somewhat far from campus (relying on the schedule of whatever public transport system is there), and my overall lack of any experience dealing with public transportation.
Thanks!

First check and see if your school even allows you to have cars as a freshman. A lot of schools don't allow freshmen to bring their cars. Check out costs for parking. In a large city it can be really expensive to park your car. I was going to live in the big city and I would have had to pay 300 a month to rent out a space to park my car. Honestly you probably won't even need a car. Public transportation is so much more convenient. I would say leave it home. You'll learn how to use public transportation and you'll be just fine.

I would take it your first semester and see how it works out. If it doesn't, and you don't need it, just take it home during Christmas break and fly back or have your parents drive you back. There's a lot of perks to having a car in college, but it can be expensive so that's something to consider.

rigidity one and have a pal rigidity the different, and in case you could purely take one, positioned one under the chum's call, yet park them jointly so which you will practice your 'variety'. stable success.

Find out where parking is for freshman. Freshman parking at my son's school is so far away, most student take the school shuttle to get there.

Having a car is good to go back and forth to home. But on campus you really don't need a car. You don't have a job yet. and as a freshman I do not recommend getting one, or at least not one that is far from campus. I don't recommend going back home too often the first semester. Not good, you need to stay on campus and adjust to being on your own. Don't go back home till October break or even till Thanksgiving.
And public transportation-time to learn how to use it.

I would talk to your parents about not taking it and seeing how it goes for one semester without a car. Plan on how you would get home for Thanksgiving and Winter break without a car.

I'd say yes depending on the parking situation on or around your campus. You might have to pay for a permit if there isn't much in the way of on-street parking but it shouldn't be that much. It could give you a big advantage in making friends and with the ladies because most freshmen don't take their cars to school.
