Your going to want to establish a portfolio, i would suggest learning to use adobe photoshop (if you cant afford it type in on you-tube how to get it for free) that's how i got mine, take pictures of variety such as wildlife, city, people ect, then tinker with the effects on photoshop. That way when you apply to be an intern you can provide samples of the work you have done. I would suggest finding old factories/ abandoned things and photographing them, then turning it to black and white it makes for great shots.
