這是現代英語口語化(尤其是美國人)打招呼問候的說法
如同How are you? How are you doing?
不是真的詢問你曾經去了那裏。

I'm wondering...亦是英語人常用的開場白，是一種禮貌地查詢或提問的意思，真正的意思是I want to know...

綜合以上兩點，這句說話的意思是
I want to know how are you?
或
I want to know how you are doing?
我想知道你近況如何？
可否告訴我你的近況呀？

回答：不是你今個月去過那些地方或是最近沒有出門
而是
I am fine, thank you.
I am doing well, thank you.
或者實在一點的
I am in a very good mood these days because...
My business is running very smoothly.
My job is giving me greate satsifaction.
I just proposed to my girl friend and we're going to get married next year....

I don't agree with Jenkin.

It is quite normal to say: (even 美國人)
"I haven't seen you for a long time. I'm wondering where you have been ...?"
It is by no means equal to the saying of "how are you ...?"

Don't mix up with "where are you up to?" or "how have you been?"

意思是:
