When RL is disconnected, we have
9 - 4 = I.(1000 + 1000)
where I is the current through the loop containing the two batteries and the two 1 kOhm resistors.
hence, I = 5/2000 A = 0.0025 A
The voltage across AB (Thevenin voltage) = (9 - 0.0025 x 1000) v = 6.5 v
The Thevenin resistance = 1000/2 ohms = 500 ohms

Therefore, the Thevenin equivalent circuit consists of a 6.5 v voltage source in series with a 500-ohm resistance.

where is (x) ???
