Question about the Bible! ?

Hi! I'm 13, and I Believe in evolution, but my best guy friend convinced me to believe in God too. So now I believe in evolution, but God was there to get it going and to push it along. Is this sinning? And I started reading Genesis on Friday. I just finished reading the whole book of Genesis. Is it okay that I read it in just 3 days? I mean, like I took my time, but yah. And the rest of my family are atheists (they don't really talk about religion around other people because of this) and anyways, i don't have anyone to take me to church. I'm sure they would take me, but they wouldn't know if I had a friend or adult eith me. What should I do about this? And how do I tell my family I now believe I. God? And also, I need tips on self Bible study! Thanks soooo much! :)

Evolution doesn't require belief. It is backed up by a preponderance of overwhelming evidence.
Belief in God does require faith, and love of God, not fear of God (or damnation) should be your motivator.
There is no "debate" between evolution & creation. They are both true.
Only people who don't understand what evolution actually IS (changes in allele frequencies in populations of organisms over multiple generations) are chastised by the profoundly ignorant who think it is something totally fabricated by "creationist" con men (eg. Kent Hovind - - now in jail for tax fraud).

Atheists believe evolution can stand alone, without any need of any "gods,"
and all the mainline Jews/Christians (as well as others) believe God initiated and is guiding the process of evolution,
at least all these people KNOW what evolution IS, and can understand all the physical evidence (like genetics) that proves it happens.
All these folks also understand that a scientific THEORY serves as the explanation for all the FACTS in evidence. (There is nothing higher than a scientific Theory),
while the "creationists" think it means "wild guess."

So that leaves the biblical literalist/fundamentalist/creationists outside of both REALITY and scripture, putting their faith in the lies of cult leaders & false preachers who've never studied science or ancient Hebrew (the language/culture/symbolism etc.) and mistakenly think the Holy Bible is a science textbook, rather than a 4000 + year old collection of Judeo-Christian spiritual history.

The evolution deniers are actually dangerous to our society (U.S.A) where our science/math scores are now only 30th in the world. Likewise, they are also harming Christianity by making us all look delusional.
Why would any one trust us in spiritual matters, when they make all of us seem so ignorant about physical matters?

They like to point fingers and make "judgments" that Christians who accept evolution are going against God, or calling God a "liar" -- when in truth -- THEY are the ones restricting the power of God to their own limited capacity to understand the world.
Just b/c evolution is "tooooo haaarrd" for them to understand, they prefer to cower in fear and claim "goddidit" all.
Well, God did, but God obviously used, the big bang, abiogenesis, and evolution in order to accomplish it ---- because THAT is what all the physical evidence proves.

No, it is never sinful to accept the truth. Jesus said the truth would set us free. Belief in God is completely compatible with knowledge of biological evolution (this is not a "belief".) Which is why there are thousands of Christian biologists. Truth cannot conflict with truth. Biological evolution, a well understood natural process, was designed and set into motion by God, like all other natural processes. It does not in any way conflict with the Bible, or true Christian teaching - though it may conflict with some of the unauthoritative interpretations of the Bible taught by some fundamentalist Protestant churches.

I am very glad that you accepted Jesus, but I hope that by reading through Genesis that you realize that God created the universe and everything in it, and that evolution isn't real. It is not a problem that you read through Genesis in a day, and it is good that you are looking into the bible. I would suggest that you start by reading the Gospels, especially Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I also hope that you know what all comes with being a christian, it is just saying I accept you Jesus and BOOM. Your life is awesome and you are happy from then on. There is a lot more that you should know, so if you want to email me at [email protected]. I would right it all in here but it would be quite a long post.

Did you read the bit where god lost his temper and drowned everybody on earth?
Truly a loving god.

Of the thousands of proposed gods, which one did your friend convince you to believe?

And why are you reading the bible? If you finished Genesis, surely the bible has convinced you it is 100% fiction.

And violent, and evil, and immoral.

I recomend you NOT try to read The Bible as any other Book..... that is not it's purpose..... it is an instruction for those of The True Church and those seeking to be...... and it is not as any other "text book"

I also recommend that you get a good Study Bible.... it will have plenty of references to get you started.... I use the Ryrie Study Bible updated version......

I also invite you to visit my site... here is a link to the page I have on The Bible.... there is a recommended order for reading there......... and feel free to look over the rest if you like... if you have any questions you can contact me from there

It is not sinful to believe that God used evolution to create life. To me, if you believe in the God of Israel (the Christian God of the Bible) then I think you believe God is a weak God. For proof of the God of Israel please read below:

The Judo-Christian God of the Bible is the One and True God because He is the only God that has withstood the test of time, science, history, and prophecies of the Bible. This can be seen through the Dead Sea Scrolls that were written over 2000 years ago; proving that it with stood the test of time because it matches up word-for-word of the Hebrew Bible today. Verses such as Leviticus 17:14 stating “For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.” and Isaiah 40:22 stating “It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:”. These verses in the Bible are proven to be scientifically true thousands of years after they were written! The Israelites being enslaved to the Egyptians 3000 years ago and the Israelites spending 40 years in the desert is historically accurate proving that the Bible stands the test of history. And the test of prophecy is being fulfilled right now by the world leaders discussing and making plans how on they, the leaders of the world, are able to unite the world through a global government and economy. This is written in the Bible in verse of Revelation 13:7 “And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.” and in Revelation 13:16-17 “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”.

Yes, I agree the creation account is simplified for us to read. But it does say God created everything according to it's kind. Which means to me he made things the way they are now, basically. There are animals that can breed to make a hybrid, and animals that can be bred to make a very specific variety, but underneath are the same animal. If left to breed naturally again, in the same environment, would breed to eventually create offspring of their original appearance. Yes, all creatures have adaptive abilities, but that doesn't mean a Velociraptor is an ancestor of the modern-day chicken. Why he created dinosaurs and the killed them off is not specified in the Bible. Personally I think it was something for us to discover. Kids get so excited about dinosaurs.. it's almost a phase every kid goes through. But that's just my opinion.

Hi. You're doing well. The very fact that you are reading the Bible is commendable.

There are a lot of various Bible study aids you can find at jw.org you may want to check it out. Especially the book "What Does the Bible Really Teach." Here is the direct link to .pdf version: http://download.jw.org/files/media_books/bh_E.pdf

It will take time for you to understand everything. So don't worry about whether you haven't fully convinced yourself of the entire truth yet. The truth is like water. A soft rain in spring is refreshing, but a downpour or rain all at once can annoying, even dangerous.

You will, if you keep learning about the truth and drawing closer to God see that he did in fact create all things according to his wisdom, and did not use the process of evolution. In Genesis the very first chapter you will see that he created everything according to their kind. True he has created within the genetic structure adaptability to environment, thus the wide variety of animals within a certain "kind" of animal. Nevertheless you will never see a certain "kind" of animal evolve into another. A dog will always be a dog, there may be varieties (same can go with finches etc.) They cannot procreate with other species, nor have they ever been observed, either in real life, or in the fossil record, to have evolved into new kinds of animals.

The teaching of evolution is not compatible with the healthful words of truth as inspired by Jehovah God.
