人類一定會處於苦難之中,因為他認為自己是分開的。但是要記住:沒有人是一座孤島。認為自己和整體是分開的只不過是一種幻覺,而其他所有的幻覺都是來自於這個幻覺。我們是這個無邊大地的一部分,我們不是孤島。記住這一點是可以被蛻變的唯一方法。
活在這樣的幻覺之中一定會製造問題,而所有的這些問題都會繼續累積。除非我們從一開始就改變我們的方法,不然它們無法被解決。
成長過程,都使內心對每事建立著一套程式與期望的結局。這Perception日漸成為Personal Identity。當面對困惑,未能從容,或力有不逮,總是不知如何是好。原有的Perception受著衝擊,接著腦交戰,腦多酚與腎上腺跑出了軌。直至宣洩或為其他思維取代,煩惱得以驅走或淡忘,心境才能平復。

《攝大乘論講記》說:「佛法本不外乎轉迷啟悟,轉染成淨的行踐。轉迷啟悟與轉染成淨的關鍵,即是知。」「知」就是明理,也就是明白因果道理;相對的,不明因果道理,或對因緣果報產生錯誤的認識,就是「痴」,又稱為「無明」。無明是煩惱的根源,無明本身就是煩惱,所以一般稱之為「無明煩惱 」。
無明煩惱是學佛的最大魔障之一,因為煩惱能障蔽我們內心中原有的真如佛性,所以又稱做蓋、障;它盤纏在我們心中,像是重重絞繞的繩索,所以又稱做結、纏;它能束縛我們的身心,使我們不得自在,所以又稱做縛;它像污垢,能污染我們的心性,所以又稱做垢;它像塵埃,可以附著我們的心,使我們的心光不能朗照,使我們身心勞頓,所以又稱做塵勞;它像洪流一樣,可以流失我們的善良品德,所以又稱做暴流;它能驅使我們在無明之中永遠的輪迴,所以又稱做使;它使我們恓恓惶惶,迷失本心,所以又稱做惑。此外又有火燄、毒箭、虎狼、險坑等譬喻。總之,煩惱會惱亂我們的身心,使我們無明造作,因而流轉生死,所以學佛就是與煩惱魔軍作戰,若想要獲得解脫自在,就必須戰勝煩惱魔軍。
