Getting immersed in an English speaking environment?

I think that your English is fantastic, although I understand that understanding/reading English is not the same as speaking it on the fly.

I don't think it's necessary for you to "get away" from your Chinese-speaking friends (I assume your first language is a dialect of Chinese) but try to branch out. If you are studying at a college or university, try to make friends in class or at work if you have a job.

I also know a website called Livemocha, which is a website that connects people who want to learn a language with people who speak that language fluently. If you have a computer headset that records audio, there are speaking exercises that other users can score, and you can meet people through the chat function. Many people post their Skype accounts, so you could use Skype to talk with them in English.

Your English is superb, and it is admirable that you endeavor to speak more comfortably. I am curious how it is that you are so motivated. I am in California and enjoy learning nuances of the Spanish language. Perhaps this is similar to your being interseted in English.

English is peculiar and complexed by the diversity of cultures that have contributed to it. This heritage is not correctly attributed to the imperialistic nature of Englanders and their ambitions in colonization, once upon a time. Rather, the international influence of the language originated largely at the time of a renewal of self-determinations of peoples multi-cultural , peoples reconstructing upon the decline of the Roman Empire and at a time when England was scattered, in shock, and poised of a national poverty of cohesive linguistic media. This is unofficial history, mind you. The sentiment of conquered eruditions re-entering an arena of educational revolution bolstered the receptiveness of many European nations to develop the inter-nation communications that was of the Latin language(s).
It was of great reluctance that most benefitted from an international tongue forced upon them. They wished to keep this new conduit(bundle of tubes or wires) of awareness, but the 'media' , Latin, was reminiscent of the mass carnage of war, domination of an invading Roman influence, and the horrors of the warping of domestic(of all common households) integrities that could have good people of many a temple and a leadership predilection(tendency) to go corrupt, be sycophants (yes-men) and stuffed-shirts (puppet-leaders). They became willing to go beyond a softening wrath of a Roman grip, and could persecute the outspoken Native Son who objected. Here is an innocent man of inspirited human truth ,crucified not at will of the conquerers , but at will of the conquered fellow countrymen! It shook the very core of many a land----the story reverberated like no news before or since. Fear of the invader yielded to fear of the popular response to the invader! Is truly our human nature so compliant to authority that we forget the authority is of a mass-murdering atrocity? Centuries can do funny things. Especially so, this is, when the invader also adopts the benefit of awareness of the story.

Christianity is less suited of a religion as it is of fortunate subservancy as a timely linguistic emanation. Note that the English language replaced the Latin. Am I the only one to have taken so long to understand this? Perhaps your understanding of English is that is is highly inflenced further by littoral (of the ocean's coasts, usually a geography word) visits such as Hong Kong. This is true. I merely believe that English is the result of civil rights more than whimsical happenstance of the British Isles.
