effects of chemicals on membrane permeability (urgent)?

I did an experiment in school. Some beetroot was put into different test tubes containing different chemicals.
The one containing alcohol shows some red colour, the the more concentrated the solution is, the more intense is the red colour. The one containing chloroform also showed some red colour, while the one containing paraffin oil showed no red colour.
Can some1 explain this result?

thanks

Alcohol has the highest memebrane permeability and then Chloroform and the Paraffin Oil.
because the hydrophilicity decreases in the same order for these three.

Alcohol penetrates more so it breaks the cell wall more lyses it so it gives more color.
oil does not get into membrane and so least colored.
