"elderly"係名詞定形容詞黎架~

YAHOO字典的elderly(老人)明明係名詞 @@ 點解 會係ADJ GE~

句子不完整
如果是直接翻譯:會收成:誰來照料上了"年長的"

句子中沒有NOUN"人"
是否應該改造成:Who will take care of the elderly man
才對????
THXXX
a.
形容詞年長的; 上了年紀的[R]Who will take care of the elderly?誰來照料上了年紀的人?My father is rather elderly now and can't walk very fast.我的父親挺老了, 走路走不快。
更新1:

============= The + adjective = people with that property @@是甚麼結構?? 為甚麼不是放名詞 而是放一個不完整的形容詞 THXXXXXXXXXX

更新2:

即是否 the horrible 都行?? @@THXXX

Please kindly note the below usage of English:

The + adjective = people with that property

The phrase "the elderly" means people who are old. As a result, the first sentence (Who will take care of the elderly) is correct.

In the second sentence, elderly is an adjective for describing 'my father'.

For the question of the part of speech, elderly is an adjective. I have checked the yahoo dictionary and adjective was indicated clearly. Please double check.

When an adjective is preceded by 'the' as in "the elderly", the adjective functions as a noun. Other examples are, the rich and the poor, "The good, the bad and the ugly".
