其實so...as to...是一種英文特定的結構，並且是一種非常正式的結構，但不大常用

英文學者Michael Swan就指出以下例子：

Would you be so kind as to tell me the time?(=...kind enough to...)
(不能說：Would you be so kind and...)
(不能說：Would you be so kind to...)

所以，你的句子並沒有錯，反而正確；相反你的改動，卻使句子錯誤，若要改動，可改寫成
He is kind enough to lend me the book.

incorrect grammar. AS can be used as "because" and "since".
In this very SHORT sentence, we seldom add "AS".
Moreover, there's a "TO" in after as.
If it is a must to add AS , then the sentence should be changed into :
he is so kind as he lend me the book.

or
(better English)
He is so kind THAT he lend me the book.
(SO... THAT...)

Syntax is a grammarian. Although I do not agree with him, it is still amusing to read his analysis.

"so kind to", "so kind as to" are both correct when used as below.
It is so kind of him to lend me the book. Here"so" means "very".
He is so kind as to lend me the book. "so as to" means "in order to".

Just google search " so kind as to" will get us many grammatically correct and sentences.
