Why do the football players put a dash of black under their eyes in a game?

To reflect the sunlight from getting in their eyes.....

It is supposed to help reflect sunlight away from their face in order to see better, but nowadays people wear it regardless if it is sunny or in a dome.

It used to be to absorb the sun glare. But when you wear them in a dome...at a night game...its just for show.

Because it looks bad a$$.....

It's supposed to reduce glare in sunny hazy days, but as people mention they now have that stick on ones which players wear even when it's raining..

I liked it when John Randall painted his whole face like the ultimate warrior from the WWF until he got fined for it...

I haven't the foggiest. I played a lot of football and one day a teammate came up to me during a sunny day game and wiped on some of that crap under my eyes. After the first series the trainer was spraying water into my eyes to flush them out.
stuff was useless to me, I didn't get it
