GERUND (動名詞):

無錯, Gerund 是只可以做名詞
Gerund is a noun (名詞) in the form of present participle (現在分詞) (verb + ing) of a verb. Gerunds function as nouns. Thus, gerunds will be subjects, subject complements, direct objects, indirect objects, and objects of prepositions.

Swimming makes you fit. (Swimming is the subject 主語)
Eating this cake is easy. (“Eating this cake” is a noun phrase. Eating is a gerund)
She hates shopping. (“shopping” is the object 賓語.)
His worst habit is lying. (“lying” is the gerund which acts as a complement.)
~ not present continuous tense.
He was devoted to swimming. (“swimming” is the object (賓語) of “to” 前置詞 .)

ADJECTIVE (形容詞).

Not all present participles are gerunds. Present participle can be used as an adjective
Verb to be + present participle (adjective)
She is charming.
It is quite promising.

Present participle (adjective) + noun (通常在名詞前面)
They found the missing child. (missing 是形容詞.)
He is one of the greatest living composers. (living 是形容詞)

Object + Present participle (adjective) (賓語後面)
She found the work interesting. (interesting 是形容詞)

Present participle is also used to form continuous tense.
verb to be + present participle 可以做動詞

She is laughing. (Present continuous)
He will be coming. (Future continuous)
We have been living in this city for ten years. (Present perfect continuous)
