I am writing an essay, personal point of view on life. I need to use dichotomy which is using two opposite things to compare life. I compared waves of ocean to life as ti has ups and down. how can I compare life to desert???!!

Life is like a desert; it's long and arduous, but every once in a while you find an oasis, or happiness.

There are as many little possibilities to make dire situations work as there are animals thriving in harsh deserts (there are more than you would assume). No need to sweat it, just figure out how to make things work.
