burning metal powder

I want to know about the process of burning metal powder. I only remember the principle is to use a platinum wire to dip the metal powder to be burnt on the top of the Bunsen burner. After burning the metal, the wire is cleaned by using an acid. But I forget the name of the acid.

Dip the Platinum Wire into concentrated Hydrochloric acid.
Dip the Platinum Wire in the sample
Heat the sample strongly under non-luminous flame.
Observe the flame colour and deduce the presence of corresponding metal ions

It is not burning metal powder.

But flame test, for testing the existence of certain metal ions by identifying the flame colour.

For the acid, to be accurate it should be concentrated hydrochloric acid(conc. HCl)

**Hydrochloric acid is definitely correct, since the question is only asking for the name of acid.
