Estate and Card debit

2012-03-16 6:54 pm
My friend's husband dead recently and there's some $ in bank a/c frozen as
estate. At the mean time, my friend found out that her husband had some card debit. She is thinking if the card debit exceeded the $ in estate, she may not want to take it. That's mean she would not apply the estate redemption and would not pay the card debit. Would the estate office and bank allow ?
Thanks.

It will still best for your friend to complete the entire probate process.

Usually, unless there is a change of ownership occurred (like real estate), the bank will force the beneficiary for debt recovery.

In other word, if his total debt exceeded total asset, the banks are the unlucky one.

By completing the entire process, your friend can ensure that there is nothing that can impact her ongoing life.

And again sorry for her loss.
