Studying in Australia, The important Use of English?

Hi there,
I am an international student who come from Hong Kong and just came to Australia few weeks ago
I'm currently studying at The University of New South Wales, doing Commerce and Law

I'm quite comfortable with the commerce courses I've taken at this stage but I don't feel good with the law course at all. Because the workload of it is so demanding, tons cases and readings.
Also I've been feeling inferior in class because I am the only international student in class.

Others are all really native speakers with excellent presentation skills and brilliant mind.
I am so afraid to speak aloud in class and cant be able to participate.

My English isn't so bad in terms of writing, listening and reading.
but I suck at speaking (maybe I didnt speak English while I was in HK)
I've been finding ways to improve my speaking but failed.
I'm seeking advice about how to deal with these problems.

Is hiring a private tutor a good choice to start getting use to speak?

A tutor will no doubt be helpful but total immersion in English will be more effective. Join the group when they go for coffee or to the pub. Make Australian friends to socialise with and most importantly stay away from all Chinese. When you graduate you will see how lucky you have been to avoid classes with many international students.

Well, for the conversion from Chinese to English, you're doing pretty darn well. The thing about languages is is that you get better at them the more you practice them. So, even if you just made a point of only speaking in English, and hanging out with people a lot so you'd be talking a lot, you'd get better at speaking English. If you're not comfortable doing that in class, you could hire a tutor, but again---hanging out with English-speaking friends will do just as much good for your speaking ability.
