As with the police and firemen in society, students at school need to wear uniforms to show their identity or occupation. School uniforms clearly helps others easily recognise their identity as a student.
By wearing school uniforms students can develop a stronger sense of belonging to the school. Not only does the uniform show that a student studies in a certain school, but it also reminds him of his memories in the school. Such a sense can, therefore, be strengthened in this way. Besides, wearing school uniforms helps improve students' self-discipline as he may well look tidy and clean. Most importantly, they may have become more aware of their identity - and the school's reputation - and would probably behave themselves in public places.
In fact, school uniforms helps pupils stay focused on their academic studies, too. Under the influence of materialism, many adolescents often place much emphasis on clothing. For reasons of vanity, some of them would by all means like to purchase numerous fashionable, brand-name clothes. For those poorer pupils, integrating into this group of students can be quite difficult and even frustrating. Even worse, the poor may be stigmatized based on their appearance and be affected negatively in their learning. Contrarily if wearing school uniforms is made compulsory to all students, the problems of prejudice against the poor students will be less likely and all students can better focus their attention on their studies.
