Yes, you could take this assumption.

Acitivty is defined as the number of disintegration per second. In each disintegration, there is a percentage of chance that a particle (alpha or beta) and/or a photon (gamma ray) are emitted. Hence, we would expect the higher the number of disintegration, the more the number of particle or photon given out. This, of course, leads to a stronger radiation beam.

The relation between the intensity of radiaiton and the activity is not straight forward, especially in the case of alpha and beta where self-absorption (i.e. absorption of the emitted particle within the radioactive sample itself) may be quite substantial.
