Should I call to check the status of job application?

I interviewed for a position exactly two weeks ago today. At the end I asked when should I hear back from them and they said two to three weeks. I have not heard anything from them yet and I am getting really anxious.

I am wondering if I should call to check up on the status even tough the three weeks have not passed or if should just sit tight and wait for the three weeks to go by and if I still have not heard from them then call.

I am worried that by calling before the time period that they gave me has expired I will come trough as pushy or desperate.

You should definitely call back to follow up, it shows initiative.

I would call and check in with them. If they have not already made a hiring decision then your call will show them that you are interested enough to check in with them. This usually looks good on your part. BUT don't harrass them or call everyday. I think a call maybe once a week for two weeks is ideal. Then after that, if you still haven't heard anything it is almost safe to assume you didn't get the position. Best of luck to you in these times of need.
