he likeS apples.
she runS very fast.
tom jumpS on the bed.

Just wondering, how do you pronounce the "S" in capital in the above situation.
Do you make a sound [s] without vibrating your vocal cords, or a "heavy" sound vibrating your vocal cords clearly as [z]?

Thank you very much.

I do the s sound for likes and jumps, but a z sound for runs.

In runS, it is like in 'appleS' or 'iS'. A 'z' sound.

In likeS and jumpS, it is an S sound like the one we produce when we say 'hiSS', or 'uS' or 'buS'.

Most plurals and verb conjugations ending in s have a z sound. The exceptions are when the stem word ends in the sound of f, k, p, t or th. So 'runs' has a z sound and the other two an s sound. I believe the right sound tends to come out naturally, but maybe that's just for native speakers.

Those are just soft S's. They do not sound like a z.
