Well actually, you can still swim. Life can go on with a period. In fact, exercise has proven to help relieve period cramps. However, do NOT wear a pad in the water- wear a tampon or a menstrual cup. Trust me, you can play sports, I feel really suckish and don't want to go play basketball at first, then I come out happy because I had a good time and my cramps are gone for a few hours afterward.
Alternatively, you can miss it if you really feel the need to. You don't have to tell the teacher if you don't want to- just say something has come up and you can't participate tomorrow. If you want to tell the teacher, don't do the diary thing, you can either just say,
"My period has begun. I'm sorry, but I can't swim today."
Or you can write a note with a short message saying,
"I feel embarrassed telling you this, but I have started my period. I don't feel comfortable swimming today.
Signed, (your name)"
I really hope I helped.
P.S. When I really don't want to play basketball, I use the 'something has come up' excuse because I can't tell Coach- he's a grown man!
