1.
a. Family suggestions -
Parents reward children with money or material possessions at young age for good grades in such subconscious suggestion that makes an even stronger impression to teenagers in high school that knowledge or education is only a mean for exchange for a good job for money to own thing they are able to afford or have.
b. Peer pressure -
Money and possessions are countable and observable items that can be showcase among teenagers. Whereas knowledge has been viewed as a score in the public exam or a ranking in school. Education does not promote exploratory and stimulative knowledge exchange. The education syllabus is viewed as a tool to identify smarter students from average students. Since most people, including teenagers, are average, the only way to distinguish oneself among peers is being able to afford or getting the money to buy things more distinguishable than the average ones.
2.
In learning a language, it is definitely by doing.
a. Language is a practical imitation exercise. You learn from repeating the language, no matter it is listening, reading, writing or comprehension, by assimilation until the skills are equal or near the same as the others using that language.
b. To learn a language is not just about knowing the principles and rules that develop that language. Each person will have his/her own style and character in using a language. The only way to establish this correctly is by doing it, often wrongly at the beginning, and correct the mistakes many times over and over until being understood and accepted by the general public using that language. Without this process self-correction, even native speaker of a language may still use the language wrongly no matter how the teacher or books tell them what is to be correct, thus unable to learn even with his/her mother tongue.
