What did he mean when he said this..?

I like one of my good friends. I think he liked me like a year ago, and i'm starting to think he likes me again.

We kissed at the local fair and he said to my other friend
"She's cute and all, but I try not too cause of the history, but you know how it is"

We've been friends for about 2 years now.
What does this mean? He didn't want to kiss me? He did? I can't think of any intense "history" we have had, other than he liked me, and possibly still does.
