Woke is the past tense of wake.Reading the phrasal verb,wake up, you'll see that you wake up when you stop sleeping and become conscious;something or someone wakes you up when they make you stop sleeping,eg:- Once you've woken up,you like to get up.
You wake up to a fact,circumstance ,situation when you become aware of it:-eg:-It's time they woke up to the fact that young people are not all lazy good-for-nothings who play electronic gadgets.
