That might be true, but it is still a better way to explain than using a grammatical way. After all, to use preposition properly can only be done by practicing and feeling.

Sentence 2, what 3 hours? Compare the use of 'during' and 'for' in this case:

If 'during' is to be used in Q1, the time has to be more specific, or somewhere in the sentence has to hint that the action of destroying is continuous over the period of three days.
