#1) Mr Wong buys a total of 25 kg of candy A and candy B packets.In candy A packet, 62% of the candies are orange-flavoured . In candy B packet, 57% of the candies are orange-flavoured. If Mr Wong mixes all the candies he bought so that 60% of the candies are orange-flavoured, find the weight of each kind of candy.

2)Physics

An experiment requires 1 000 mL liquid with 89% alcohol content by capacity. There are two kinds of alcoholic liquid in the laboratory. The alcohol content in liquid A is 80% by capacity, and liquid B the alcohol content is 95% by capacity. In order to obtain the liquid required in the experiment, how many mL of liquid B should be mixed together?

1 Let say the weight of candy A packets is x kg

x * 62% + (25 - x) * 57% = 25 * 60%

0.62x + 14.25 - 0.57x = 15

0.05x = 0.75

x = 15

So, the weight of candy A packets is 15 kg and the weight of candy B packets is 10 kg

2 Let say we use x ml of liquid A

Then x * 0.8 + (1000 - x) * 0.95 = 1000 * 0.89

0.8x + 950 - 0.95x = 890

0.15x = 60

x = 400

So, we should use 600 ml of liquid B.

1. Let the weight of candy A be x kg.The weight of candy B be y kg.
x+y=25---------------------------(1)
x*62%+y*57%=25*60%---------(2)
From (1),
x=25-y------------------(3)
Simplifying (2),
0.62x+0.57y=15------------(4)
Sub (3) into (4),
0.62*(25-y)+0.57y=15
15.5-0.62y+0.57y=15
-0.05y=-0.5
y=10
Sub y=10 into (3),
x=25-10
x=15
So the weight of candy A is 15 kg, the weight of candy B is 10 kg.

2.Let the capacity of liquid A be x mL, capacity of liquid B be y mL.
x+y=1000---------------(1)
x+80%+y*95%=1000*89% -----(2)
From (1),
x=1000-y---------------------(3)
Simplifying (2),
0.8x+0.95y=890-------------(4)
Sub (3) into (4),
0.8(1000-y)+0.95y=890
800-0.8y+0.95y=890
-0.15y=-90
y=600
Sub y=600 into (3)
x=1000-600
x=400
So 400mL of liquid A and 600mL of liquid B should be mixed together.

in my opinion, it is meaningless to set a couple of equations, so i prefer the solution given by others above. By the ways, it heavily depends on the question requirement of course.

1.
you have two information, total weight and orange-flavoured, so develope a couple of equation by each information
total weight: A + B = 25kg
oranged flavoured: 62%A + 57%B = 60%(25kg)

2.
total capacity and alcohol content
alcohol content: 80%A + 95%B = 89%(1000)
total capacity: A + B = 1000
