'had' must be the answer, already(已經) means before now in the time-line, therefore, present tense is not as appropriate as past tense.
mostly use present/past perfect tense in a sentence with already.

(1) 當already 用於強調某些情況和問題的存在,用 simple present tense

I already have a dozen of ties.

(2) 當already 解作 "已經; 先前", 用 present/past perfect tense

I have had lunch already.
We got there early but Mike had already left.

already (definition from Oxford dictionary):
used to emphasize that a situation or problem exists
e.g. I'm already late.
e.g. There are far too many people already. We can't take any more.

(2) 當already 解作 "先前" (before now or before a particular time in the past), 用 present/past perfect tense
