Hello there,

I am a native from South Korea and I know a lot about North Korea..

North Korea is currently the world's most strict dictatorship and if you do anything the government hates, you will get caught-you won't like it.

North Korea is a country that is sort of 'against' the democratic culture of South Korea and any North Korean citizen who reads South Korea stuff, listens to K-pop , etc, will be put in jail.

..HOWEVER, IF you are a foreigner and you keep everytihng to yourself and keep quiet they won't harm you;

The government there is relatively nice to foreigners (for some strange reason), especially white people, and there are some people who will take you on a tour around Pyongyang, the capital.

Always bear in mind that if you want to listen to South Korean music in North Korea you need to do it secretly; they could confiscate your mp3 player and never give it back......(as it is a sign of democratic culture that the government doesn't like...)

Hope that helps.

I actually watched 3 documents on Netflix the other day about North Korea - and what I got from it, is No. Absolutly not. The school textbooks, and leisure books in Korea were all authored by either Kim Il Sung or Kim Jong Il - there are no cellphones, no internet access; it is 107 % isolation. The TV is only government run channels, and every home has a government radio that does not turn off. The only songs they sing are the kind of "long like the General!" "down with America!" type songs.

I don't believe someone had a North Korean friend on Youtube (as stated in the answer above). As I already said, there is absolutly no internet there.
Also, many people dont risk having dramas or books circulating around - because if they are caught, yes they would be put in a prison camp, but not only they would be put in a camp - three generations of their family would too. For example, if you Grandfather got in trouble - your Grandmother, your parents, and you and your siblings would all be put into a prison camp.

So, if you asked the average North Korean teenager who SHINee or Super Junior was - they would probably have no idea what you are talking about. (It is said in the documentry that most don't even know a man has walked on the moon)

It's a crazy, scary place!

They don't even listen to K-Pop.

There were these videos in youtube (I don't remember who it was)
I think Shinhwa, and Baby Vox when they did a concert in North Korea and the audience was dead silent and awkward. They show no joy in anything.

It was just creepy.

No! It's very dangerous because in North-Korea you are allowed to listen only to local music. If you get caught you will end up in horrible prisons.

Hey Cindy,

I agree with Daniel. It's not allowed.

If you're curious about North Korea and live in Asia then I recommend
trying a North Korean restaurant. If you travel to China, Vietnam or another
Communist country you can find a North Korean restaurant and learn about the culture.

I dont think so. They might be kicked out in North Korea if they do so.

Like the two Daniel people said, no.

If the North Korean government find someone's been watching K-dramas or listening to K-POP they will either fine them a lot or immediately chuck them in jail.

I saw a friend's sister somehow has a North Korean friend on YouTube, but after they said something about how much they love K-POP, she and her family were chucked in jail.... meh the government is weird and dodgy.

What a lot of people mistake about North Korean people is that they all hate South Korea - that's not true, it's only the Government. Other normal people are desperate to escape from Kim Jung Il's evil grasps. :/
