Consider the general term of (√x - 1/(3x))¹² :T(r+1) = (12Cr) (√x ¹²⁻ʳ ) (- 1/(3x)) ʳ= (12Cr) ( x^((12 - r)/2) ) ( (-3x)⁻ʳ )= (12Cr) ( x^(6 - r/2) ) ( x⁻ʳ ) (- 3)⁻ʳ = (- 3)⁻ʳ (12Cr) ( x^(6 - 3r/2) ) 6 - 3r/2 is an integer , Let 2k be r , and r = 0 , 1 , 2 , 3 , ... , 12So r = 0 , 2 , 4 , 6 , 8 , 10 , 12 Answer : 7 terms.
