✔ 最佳答案

如果說成 "an entrance which cut directly into one wall",整句變成“入口切入到牆裡”,但入口本身不會做動作,所以"cut"應該是被動式 "be cut"。

an entrance (which was) cut directly into one wall. (入口"被"切入到牆裡)

原句中的 "cut" 是 "which was cut" 的縮寫,所以用 "which cut" 是不正確的。

Hi DaSaGwa, I'm not saying your answer is wrong either, but what the OP asked is "請問答案為甚麼不是WHICH CUT呢", and my answer was just to point out the fact that "doors" can't actually "cut" things and so passive tense should be used.

如果答案是"cutting",那麼應該就如DasaGwa大大所言,是將物體“活化”,(在句中是將“門”當作會自己做動作的“活物”,因此它會自己“切入”到牆裡;cutting在句中屬於現在分詞)。

you can use "which cut", "that cut" or just "cut"

How about "The wind cut kneely" and "The cold wind cut me to the bone", can "wind" really cut ?

I don't like to argue about this kind of thing. However, I feel: Don't always use grammar to explain !

I don't mean your saying is WRONG, in fact, it is correct. However, it is right by using a "passive tense". However, a sentence like this doesn't ALWAYS need a "passive tense".

I come out to discuss with you is because I like the asker to know both our saying is correct.

2011-11-24 21:13:25 補充:
sorry!, my mistake, I shall say "... both our sayings are correct."

2011-11-24 21:15:31 補充:
It depends upon how you try to describe the situation. Your way is logically correct, because entrance cannot cut. My saying is to humanize the entrance.

2011-11-24 21:16:04 補充:
Therefore, I use "entrance" as the subject !
