This question is about reflection of water waves

In a ripple tank , a straight water wave of wavelength 1 cm travels in a deep region . It then enters a shallow region and its speed is reduced to one fifth of the original. What is the wavelength of the wave in the shallow region?

When water ripples go from a deep region to a shallow region, its frequency remains unchanged.

Since speed of wave = frequency x wavelength
hence for a fixed frequency of waves, speed of wave is proportional to its wavelength.

Therefore, wavelength at shallow region = 1 x (1/5) cm = 1/5 cm = 0.2 cm

v1/v2 = 入1/入2
1/5 = 入1/1
入1 = 0.2 cm
