請問break跟build這兩個動詞在用法上的差異

break的例句可以改成下面的句子:
What he did to the table was break it.
這裡有問題，因為was break是兩個沒有關連的動詞，不合語法。應改寫成：
What he did to the table is breaking it.
breaking it是動名詞片語。（不宜用不定詞片語to break it，因為不定詞有尚未做的意思，不合本句語意，除非是What he will do to the table is to break it.表示這是未來的計畫。）
What he did to the table是名詞子句當主要子句的主詞。
關係代名詞what在本句等於The thing that，是帶先行詞的關係代名詞。
主要動詞應用現在簡單式，因為這個狀況不受時間影響，一直為真實的。

可是build卻不行
＊What he did to the table was build it.
這句可以改寫成What he did to the table is building it.理由同上。但本句不能寫成What he will do the table is to build it.因為語意不符邏輯，除非是What he will do now is to build a table.

What he did to teh table was building it.
應用過去簡單式的主要動詞was,因為整個句子的時間座標是在過去.(過去的狀況)

I seriously doubt "What he did to the table was broke it." is a grammatically correct sentence.

Other grammar experts can chime in on that.

應該說: What he did to the table was broke it.
What he did to the table was built it.
因為was將每一句分成兩部分;was就是=
所以What he did to the table(是過去式)=
broke it(也是過去式)
What he did to the table(過去式)=
built it(過去式).
