Do 被害 and 損害 mean the same thing and can they be exchanged in sentences or is there some sort of difference in usage?

被害 (higai) refers to "physical damage" you have received.

損害 (songai) relates to the "financial losses" you have incurred.

Native Japanese speakers clearly distinguish between 被害 and 損害.

被害 means being hurt. 被means 'being'. You can say 他被害 (he's being hurt). 损害 can means hurt or can mean damage(damage a car, public property). 被损害 also means being hurt.

被害 is like, being hurt by someone or some incident, it's kind of passive, if you get what i mean. 損害 means to hurt someone, or break something, more of an active form.
被害 is being hurt, while 損害 is to hurt. i hope its not too complicated ahaha :P
