請問一個句子的翻譯與錯誤的地方

A man is usually respected if he earns a lot of money, so men do their best to continually get ahead, and to be better than "a friend" at work.


如果一個男人有很多很多錢，他一般都會受人尊重。所以男人們都會盡他們所能去取得進一步成功，試著在工作上（對其他人來說）不只是一位“朋友”。

“trying to" 是 動名詞片語，"to try to" 是不定詞片語，基本上在句中所表達的意思是完全一樣的，所以
trying to be better than a "friend" at work = to try to be better than a "friend" at work.

我舉幾個例子：
Fighting for their country is what soldiers do.
To fight for their country is what soldiers do.

兩句意思都是一樣的。

do my best / try my best 這些中文都可翻譯為“盡量”的意思。

I'l try my best to ..........V............ --> 我會盡我所能.....V.....。（...V...是動詞，是你要盡量去怎樣的動作）

I'll do my best to complete the task by tomorrow - 我會盡我所能在明天前完成這份工作。

沒錯，一般來說現在分詞前面都會接介詞"be"或其各個時態如:

現在一般時態: is / am / are
過去一般時態: was / were
現在進行時態: being
過去進行時態: been

He is trying to be better than ...
He was trying to be better than ...
He has been trying to be better than ...

以上三句中的 "trying" 就是現在分詞。
