(a) When the coil changes from circular to elliptical, the magnetic flux linkage with the coil decreases. By Lenz's Law, the induced current must flow in a direction such as to increase the magentic field linkage. Hence, by Righ Hand Screw Rule, the current flows in a clockwise direction.

(b) The reverse to that described above in (a) happens. The current flows such as to decrease the magnetic flux. Hence, the induced current flows in a counterclockwise direction.
